"How much does a photographer cost?" is one of the first things families and couples ask, and it's a fair question. Prices around Milton, Oakville, Burlington and the rest of the GTA vary a lot, so here's an honest look at typical costs in 2026, what affects the price, and what you should get for your money.

Typical photography prices in the GTA

Every photographer prices differently, but here's roughly what you'll see across Halton and the GTA:

  • Mini sessions (15 to 30 minutes): usually around $100 to $300, often with 6 to 25 edited photos
  • Full family or couples sessions (45 to 90 minutes): roughly $200 to $700, depending on time, images and gallery length
  • Event photography: commonly priced by the hour, often $150 to $300 per hour with a 2-hour minimum
  • Weddings in Ontario: many couples spend somewhere around $2,500 to $4,500, with full-day and two-photographer packages costing more

The big takeaway: the number on the price tag only tells you part of the story. What's included matters just as much.

What affects the price of a photo session?

  • Number of edited photos. Some sessions include 6 images, others 50 or more. Always check the count.
  • Session length. A 20-minute mini and a 90-minute session are very different experiences.
  • Gallery access. Some galleries close after a few weeks, others stay open for months.
  • Travel and location fees. Some photographers include local travel, others add a fee.
  • Experience and style. Years behind the camera, editing style and how comfortable you feel all play a part.
  • Extras. Prints, albums and rush delivery are usually add-ons.

Questions to ask before you book

  • How many edited photos will I receive?
  • How long will it take to get my photos?
  • How long does my online gallery stay open?
  • Is there a travel fee for my location?
  • How much is the deposit, and what happens if I need to reschedule?
  • Can I see a full gallery from a past session, not just the highlights?

My pricing (Ahmed Saeed Studios)

I keep my pricing simple and upfront, so there are no surprises:

  • Mini session: $150 for 30 minutes and 25 edited photos
  • Full family session: $275 for 1 hour, up to two nearby spots, and 50 edited photos
  • Events: $150 per hour, 2-hour minimum, around 40 edited photos per hour
  • Weddings: $200 per hour, 3-hour minimum, around 50 edited photos per hour
  • Printed storybook album: $350 for a 12-page, 12" x 18" (opens to 12" x 36") album with 30 to 60 of your favourite photos

Session galleries arrive within 2 weeks and stay open for 60 days. Anywhere in the GTA is included; for spots further out, I'll let you know about any travel fee upfront.

Is a cheaper photographer worth it?

Sometimes, yes. A newer photographer can be great value. The key is to look at real galleries, read reviews, and make sure you understand exactly what you're getting. A good session should feel relaxed, and you should walk away with photos you're excited to print.
